FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Arenaria norvegica, Arctic Sandwort, Skeggsandi

Arenaria norvegica; the Arctic Sandwort is a small ground-dwelling herb. Apart from the bright white 5-petaled flowers it can be recognized by the small opposite green leaves on usually red stems. It grows in most regions of Iceland, usually in open sand and gravelly areas.

It is a member of the Pink family (Caryophyllaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Skeggsandi.
