FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Saxifraga cotyledon, pyramidal saxifrage

Saxifraga cotyledon; The Pyramidal Saxifrage is a conspicuous saxifrage. It has an erect multi-flowered stem from a basal rosette. S. paniculata (silver saxifrage) is quite similar but has the flowers more tightly grouped at the top where the pyramidal saxifrage has loosely arranged flowers. There is a difference in leaves of the basal rosette too. S. cotyledon has smooth-margined leaves where S. paniculata has light-colored teeth on the leaf margins. S. cotyledon is found only in eastern Iceland (east from Vik). S. paniculata is found in eastern Iceland and some area's of western Iceland.
