FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Parnassia palustre , grass of Parnassus

Parnassia pallustris; the grass of parnassus is found in grasslands and grassy heathers on rather moist soils. The starry creamy-white flowers with dark veins and the cordate leaves makes it an easily identifiable plantlet. It can be found almost everywhere except for the deserts of the interrior of the country where no suitable habitats exist. It is a member of the Saxifrage family (Saxifragaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Mýrasóley.
