FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Listera ovata, Common Twayblade

Listera ovata; The common twayblade is a very rare species on Iceland. Far more common is the Lesser Twayblade (L. cordata). This orchid, however, is difficult to spot because it "hides" under other plants. L. cordata can be found in a broad band from the south-west of Iceland - over the north coast - to the south-east coast, as well as in certain inland regions.
It is a member of the Orchid family (Orchidaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Eggtvíblaðka.
