FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Lathyrus japonicus, sea pea

Lathyrus japonicus; the sea pea, as the name suggests, grows along the coast. It prefers sandy soils. Apart from the sea coasts it can also be found more inland along rivers of the south. I photographed this plant on a sandbank of the Krossá river in the Thörsmörk region. It is a member of the Pea family (Papilionaceae).
