FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Dactylorhiza maculata, Heath Spotted Orchid

Dactylorhiza maculata; The heath spotted orchid can be found in grasslands, heathers and in birch stands. It is found generally in the lowlands and coastal mountains but is rare in the central highlands. The flower color ranges from white to pink. Characteristic are the dark spots both on the flowers and on the leaves.
It is a member of the orchid family (Orchidaceae).
